After assessing a complaint in relation to an alleged mortgage fraud, the Director started an investigation into Mr Malcolm Mayer under part II of the Serious Fraud Office Act on 28 July 2008.

This investigation has been completed and Mr Mayer has been charged with 26 counts of dishonestly using a document, 26 counts of obtaining by deception and 10 counts of using forged documents.  The charges relate to loan applications and mortgage funds totalling $47.845 million obtained by Mr Mayer between December 2003 and August 2007 in respect of 26 properties.

Mr Mayer is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on 27 April for pre-trial arguments.  The trial is scheduled to commence on 25 July 2011.
