Social media

The Serious Fraud Office uses social media platforms to inform, engage and increase awareness about our work.

Before you engage with us on social media, please read our terms of use below. If you use or access our social media pages, you are considered to have consented to the conditions below. 

SFO social media use

We use social media to:

  • share news, resources, engagements and prevention material;
  • provide information about careers and job opportunities; and
  • share other posts, articles, events or publications of interest that are relevant to our work.

We currently use the following media channels:

  • LinkedIn 
  • X
  • Facebook

We may follow or like other organisations or individuals that are relevant to the SFO. We may choose to repost information for the interest and information of our followers. However, sharing or failing to remove such posts or comments does not amount to our endorsement.

Terms of Use 

  • Our social media platforms are maintained and monitored by our Communications team to ensure we maintain professional and public sector standards.
  • We welcome feedback and ideas from our followers, noting any views or comments expressed via our social media accounts are solely those of the person making them.
  • The presence of views and comments on the platform does not constitute endorsement by the SFO.
  • We can moderate and remove comments for any reason, including any that:
    1. contain hate speech, threats, harassment, misinformation
    2. are offensive and/or defamatory (including swearing, obscene, vulgar, raciest, sexist or discriminatory comments, insulting personal attacks or unreasonable criticism of the SFO, its staff or others)
    3. are considered by us to be inaccurate or irrelevant to the post or the work of the SFO
    4. share personal information, or breach a court order
    5. negatively impact on the perception of the SFO’s neutrality, both politically and commercially
    6. are posted from an account deemed likely to be fake or anonymous
    7. contain sales or promotional material
  • Comments or users that breach any of our terms may be removed and blocked from our pages.
  • We also reserve the right to report or remove any posts or comments that do not comply with the rules of the relevant channel.
  • Comments on any social media posts related to a case, including posts on SFO media releases, will be disabled to ensure fair trial rights and comply with court orders as applicable.

Private or direct messaging

We do not monitor private and direct messaging on SFO social media pages.

  • We do not accept reports of suspected fraud and corruption via social media. If you would like to contact the SFO to report alleged criminal offending, please see our reporting page.
  • We do not accept enquiries or complaints via social media. If you would like to get in touch with the SFO, please see our Contact Us page.
  • Please be aware that information shared privately or via direct message through our social media channels will be viewable by account administrators, and our staff (as appropriate).

Complaints

  • Complaints that any comments on our social media pages are harmful, defamatory, threatening, indecent, grossly offensive, or constitutes harassment should be made to us at sfo@sfo.govt.nz. If you provide details of the specific content that you consider to be unlawful (for example under the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015), we will assess the complaint and remove the comment as appropriate within 48 hours.
