TV producer Alexander Breingan’s appeal dismissed
Television producer Alexander Breingan’s appeal of a District Court decision denying him the ability to attend future court appearances from the United States has been dismissed.
The Serious Fraud Office filed 33 charges against Mr Breingan for allegedly making false representations and using forged documents to obtain more than $4.3 million in Government-funded rebates and $10.2 million in lending. Mr Breingan has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
In August this year, Judge David Clark declined Mr Breingan’s applications to cancel the warrant for his arrest and for permission to appear at procedural hearings prior to trial via audio-visual link from the United States. The prosecution opposed these applications.
Mr Breingan appealed Judge Clark’s ruling, which was heard on 29 October 2026 in the Auckland High Court before Justice Harvey, who went on to dismiss the appeal.
Mr Breingan’s next scheduled court appearance is 25 November 2026 in the Auckland District Court.
